Chancellor’s measures labelled ‘worst-case scenario for the Scottish budget’
Job cuts across the public sector in Scotland have been signalled by the finance secretary following a “worst-case” autumn statement by the UK chancellor.
Shona Robison, who is also the deputy first minister, said the measures introduced by Jeremy Hunt in last week’s autumn statement left the SNP government with no choice but to reduce numbers on the state payroll.
Robison told BBC Scotland that the Scottish government had “limited room for manoeuvre” in setting its budget on December 19, which “will be one of the most difficult” since devolution.
